We are pleased to announce that our Co-Founder and Chairman, Richard Brandweiner, has been appointed Chief Investment Officer at the Future Fund.
The Future Fund is Australia’s sovereign wealth fund, established in 2006 to strengthen the Government’s long-term financial position. It invests on behalf of the Australian Government to generate strong, risk-adjusted returns over time, helping build wealth for future generations.
Richard will step down from his current position on the Australian Ethical Investment (AIE) Board to take on this new role with the Future Fund. His resignation will take effect from 4 May 2026, and Richard will commence his appointment with the Future Fund from 1 July, 2026.
Reflecting on his time with AEI, Richard said: “It has been a privilege to serve on the Board of Australian Ethical during a period of significant growth and capability building. I leave confident in its long-term direction and continued ability to deliver positive outcomes for members, investors, and the wider community.”
Richard brings extensive leadership and investment experience to his new position, having previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Pendal Group, and prior to that as Chief Investment Officer at First State Super. His career also includes senior investment roles with Perpetual, along with a number of non-executive positions more recently. Richard is Chair of Impact Investing Australia and sits on the Investment Committees of a number of family offices. He is also on the Investment Committee of Aboriginal Investment NT and is currently nominated to serve as Governor on the CFA Institute Board.
Reflecting on his appointment, Richard said: “The Future Fund has a compelling purpose as Australia’s sovereign wealth fund. Its investment approach and capabilities are globally respected. I look forward to working with the team and the Board of Guardians to continue delivering strong risk-adjusted returns for Australia.”
Chief Executive Officer Dr Raphael Arndt commented: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to the Future Fund. He is an experienced investor and executive and has significant experience in leading investment teams to achieve their mandates.”
